Facts about Norway as a sport fishing destination
Facts about Norway as a sport fishing destination
Norway is one of the world's premier countries for sea fishing. Long coastlines, deep fjords, and cold, nutrient-rich waters create conditions that few other places can match – and Vesterålen is right in the hottest zone.
Is there Wi-Fi available?
Is there Wi-Fi available?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is included in all sea houses and apartments. The coverage is stable – you can stay in touch with family, stream fishing videos in the evening, or upload pictures of the day's catch without any problems.
How do you fish in Vesterålen?
How do you fish in Vesterålen?
Fishing takes place from our own boat in Andfjorden and Gavlfjorden, usually at depths between 30 and 300 meters depending on the species and season. The most common methods are jigging with metal jigs and soft plastics weighing 100–500 g for cod, saithe, and halibut. If you want to actively hunt for halibut, spinning with a jig on shallower plateaus works well – it's one of the most enjoyable ways to fish in Northern Norway. For redfish, a rubber worm is used, and in autumn you can spin fish for plaice on sandy bottoms.
How are the weather and climate?
How are the weather and climate?
The climate in Frovåg, Senja, is typical of Northern Norway, with fresh winds, clear air, and changeable weather. During the fishing season from April to September, temperatures usually range between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius – but some days offer brilliant sunshine and over 20 degrees.
When the sun warms the fjords and the sea is calm, fantastic fishing days await. At the same time, the sheltered coves mean it's almost always possible to find good fishing regardless of the weather. It's a good idea to pack layers and waterproof clothing, so you'll be ready for all conditions. The weather can change quickly!
