Fishing in Bosnia

Bosnia is one of Europe's most appreciated fly fishing destinations. Clear water, stable water flow, and good stocks of grayling, trout, and rainbow trout await in some of the region's most well-known rivers.

During the trip, we will fish in waters such as Ribnik, Pliva, Sana, and Una, where each river offers its own character. Ribnik is known for its technical fishing for wary trout, while Pliva offers flowing water with good stocks of grayling and rainbow trout. In Sana and Una, larger waters await, with a chance of really good fish when conditions are right.

The clear water makes fishing both visual and exciting. You often see the fish before casting, which demands correct presentation, fly choice, and technique. Together with local guides, each fishing day is adapted to the conditions, water levels, and what the group wants to get out of the fishing.

What is a hosted trip?

A hosted trip is a fishing trip where an experienced tour leader accompanies you throughout the entire journey. You get support, camaraderie, and someone to share the experience with, both by the water and in the evenings after fishing.

On this hosted trip to Bosnia, you will travel with Sivan Jansson and a small group of fly fishers. The trip includes four full days of guided fishing in some of Europe's most esteemed fly fishing rivers, while also providing the security of having an experienced tour leader with you every step of the way.

Who is Sivan Jansson?

Sivan Jansson is one of Sweden's most experienced fly fishers and a well-known figure in the Swedish sport fishing scene. She started fly fishing in the late 1980s and has since accumulated over 30 years of experience on the water, from grayling and trout in Nordic rivers to tropical fishing for species like bonefish.

As a certified fly fishing instructor, Sivan has worked professionally in fishing for many years. She has held courses, lectures, and inspired fly fishers across Sweden through her great dedication to the sport.

What makes Sivan a valued tour leader is not only her experience but also her ability to make everyone feel included. Regardless of whether you are new to fly fishing or have many years of experience, you will find calm, support, and a desire to help you develop during your week in Bosnia.

Bosnia's rivers, as good as their reputation

Bosnia has long been one of Europe's most cherished fly-fishing destinations. Here, clear waters, stable water levels, and excellent stocks of trout, grayling, and rainbow trout await in some of the region's most renowned rivers.

During the trip, we will fish in waters such as Ribnik, Pliva, Sana, and Una. From calm and technical stretches where the wary trout demands precision, to flowing sections where grayling and rainbow trout often offer fast-paced bites.

Local guides will be present every day and know the waters inside and out. Together with Sivan Jansson, the fishing will be adapted to the conditions, your skill level, and what you personally want to get out of the day.

You don't need to be an expert to join. The most important thing is the desire to develop, experience new waters, and enjoy truly excellent fly-fishing in Bosnia.

Cabins by the river, rustic food, genuine tranquility

During the trip, you will stay in cabins or apartments right next to the fishing, in a shared double room with the option to book a private room as an add-on.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included every day, along with non-alcoholic beverages. The food is local, rustic, and prepared with care, often served in a relaxed setting where the day's fishing can be recapped with the group.

Going on a fishing trip to Bosnia with Baitbox

Is the trip suitable for someone new to fly fishing like me?

Yes. This hosted trip is suitable for both fly fishing beginners and experienced anglers looking to develop further.

With Sivan Jansson, support is close at hand throughout the trip, both by the water and before departure. Before the trip, the group meets in Gothenburg or digitally to go through equipment, technique, and practical information, so that you can feel secure already when you land in Bosnia.

The smaller group and the open, helpful atmosphere ensure that all levels are welcome.

Do I need to bring my own fishing equipment?

If you have your own fly-fishing equipment, that's excellent. If you're missing parts or want to try before you invest, you can rent equipment from us upon request.

Before the trip, you will also receive recommendations regarding rods, lines, and flies suitable for fishing grayling, trout, and rainbow trout in Bosnia's rivers.

Which flies and lines work best for fly fishing in Bosnia?

Classic dry flies, small nymphs, and lighter streamers often work very well in Bosnia's clear rivers. Since the fishing is often visual and technical, light leaders and a soft presentation make a big difference.

Before the trip, you will receive a detailed equipment list with recommendations for flies, lines, and other equipment suitable for grayling, trout, and rainbow trout fishing in Bosnia.

What's included in the price of this fishing trip?

The price includes a preparatory meeting before the trip, a Swedish tour guide, and round-trip flights from Stockholm, Landvetter, Oslo, or Copenhagen.

You also get on-site transfers, four full days of guided fly fishing in Bosnia, and five nights' accommodation in a shared double room close to the fishing spots.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included every day, along with non-alcoholic beverages, so you can fully focus on the experience on Bosnia's rivers.

Can I fly from another city?

Yes. Contact us and we will review the possibilities of arranging departure from another location and provide you with a price quote based on your wishes.

Is there Wi-Fi available?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi at the accommodation. The connection is sufficient for sending pictures, checking in with family and friends, and sharing the day's catch in the chat. Do not expect streaming or high speeds. If you want to ensure full connectivity, we recommend a local SIM or eSIM card, as coverage in the area is generally good.

How large is the group?

This is a hosted trip in a small group to create a personal and relaxed experience, both on the water and in the evenings. The smaller group size also means there is plenty of time for support from the guides and Sivan Jansson during the fishing.

What fish species can I expect to catch?

Trout, grayling, and rainbow trout are the focus of fishing in Bosnia. The rivers are known for their healthy stocks, and grayling over 50 centimeters are not uncommon. When conditions are right, there is also a good chance of catching larger trout and rainbow trout, especially in waters like Ribnik, Pliva, Sana, and Una.
