About the fishing trip

Salmon fishing in Camp Onka on the Lainio River

Camp Onka is located on the Lainio River in northern Lapland and offers fly fishing for Baltic salmon on private stretches of one of Sweden's most pristine rivers. The Lainio River is an important tributary to the Torne River and receives a large proportion of the salmon that migrate upstream into the system each summer. Here you can fish in peace and quiet, far from roads and crowds, with plenty of space and a clear focus on quality over quantity.

fish species and bait choice

In Camp Onka and Lainio River, salmon (Baltic salmon) is the primary species and the clear focus of the fishing. In addition to salmon, trout and grayling are also found, and in nearby waters, pike, which provides opportunities for variation depending on the season and interest.

Bait selection is determined by water level, temperature, and time of year. Early in the season, salmon are often fished with larger tube flies and heavier lines, adapted for higher water. As the season progresses and the water level drops, smaller flies, lighter tips, and floating lines become more effective. Classic salmon flies in dark and natural colours work well, especially during evenings and nights when the fish are most active.
