Fishing in Extremadura

The fishing here is completely different from back home. Extremadura offers large reservoirs, a warmer climate, and incredibly diverse predator fishing where Black Bass takes center stage. The lakes are full of perfect structure: submerged trees, drop-offs, cliffs, rocky bottoms, and long coves where the fish patrol. This makes every day unpredictable in the best possible way.

Bass fishing is intense, featuring hard strikes, a fast pace, and the chance of catching truly impressive fish. At the same time, pike, zander, and Comizo Barbel are present and often surprise anglers, especially when fishing along deep edges or around submerged trees. Everything from topwater and Texas-rig to chatterbaits, cranks, and finesse techniques works here; much of the fishing involves lures from JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) for bass fishing, as well as from the USA.

The season runs from March to December, but September to November and April to May truly stand out. During these periods, the water conditions are perfect, bass are actively hunting, and you can experience topwater fishing well into autumn. It's predator fishing with speed, warmth, and excitement, offering a chance to extend the season when Sweden has already entered winter mode.

fish species and bait choice

The fishing here will feel familiar if you enjoy perch fishing back home, but Black Bass takes it up a notch with their fast, hard strikes. You can fish with jigs, cranks, and topwater lures just as usual, but Extremadura also opens the door to new techniques and baits from both the USA and Japan. Finesse rigs, modern topwater methods, and more aggressive presentations work really well in the structure-rich lakes.

It's a type of fishing that both develops and inspires, whether you're an experienced predator angler or curious to try something new.

The best time to go is from March to December, when fishing is active and varied. The periods September–November and April–May stand out a little extra – then the lakes offer perfect temperatures, plenty of actively hunting fish, and a really good chance for surface strikes. It is also an ideal time to extend the season when it has gotten cold back home in Sweden.

Can I customize my fishing trip

Facts about the country

Extremadura is located in western Spain, near the border with Portugal. The region is known for its slow pace, great natural value, and a landscape that clearly distinguishes itself from Spain's more tourist-dense areas. Here you'll find rolling hills, valleys, olive groves, and enormous reservoirs that have made Extremadura one of Europe's most exciting areas for predator fishing. The climate is warm and dry for much of the year, with milder winters and long periods of stable weather. It is also this climate that makes predator fishing so strong here.

Extremadura has a rich culture and history with influences from both the Romans and the Moors. Many small villages and towns offer classic tapas bars, local produce, and a genuine Spanish atmosphere. It is a region where you quickly feel welcome and where fishing, nature, and food are intertwined in a way that makes the trip memorable even off the water.

Is there Wi-Fi on site?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi at the lodge

How do you fish in Extremadura?

In Extremadura, you mainly fish with various spinning techniques targeting Black Bass, pike, zander, and Comizo Barbel. The lakes are full of structure such as submerged trees, rocks, drop-offs, and grass edges, which makes techniques like flukes, Texas rigs, crankbaits, chatterbaits, and topwater lures work really well.

You fish from modern bass boats with local fishing guides who know exactly how the fishing changes from day to day. The pace is high, the bites are often hard, and you can use both classic methods and modern techniques from the USA and Japan. It's a varied predator fishing where every cast can yield something new.

How are the weather and climate?

Extremadura has a warm and stable climate that is perfect for predator fishing. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and active fish, while summer can get very hot with long, bright days on the water. Winters are mild compared to Sweden, which means fishing often continues for most of the year. It's a climate where you get a lot of time outdoors and where the weather rarely stops you from fishing.
