A week filled with sea fishing and camaraderie

A fishing trip to Norway often begins early in the morning when you step down to the pier and are greeted by mirror-flat water, fresh sea air, and the view of the dramatic mountains of Senja. After breakfast, the group gathers with the tour leader from Mieko Fishing to plan the day's fishing, choose the right baits, and devise a strategy based on weather, currents, and tides.

During the day, you will fish in some of Northern Norway's most productive fishing spots with the chance to hook halibut, large coalfish, cod, redfish, and other species that thrive in the deep fjords and along underwater cliffs.

Evenings conclude with a communal dinner where the day's catches and experiences are discussed. Tips, experiences, and stories are often shared around the dinner table, making the week as much a social experience as a fantastic fishing trip.

It is the combination of world-class sea fishing, the spectacular nature, and the camaraderie with other passionate anglers that makes Frovåg a destination many return to year after year.

Fishing in Frovåg, Senja

During this hosted trip to Frovåg on Senja in July, you will experience a stable and active period for sea fishing in Norway, focusing on halibut, coalfish, cod, and redfish.

Halibut is one of the main target species during the trip. In summer, it often moves into shallower areas, making it more accessible for spin fishing and drift fishing. You will have good opportunities to fish for halibut in Norway with the right techniques and guidance from the tour leader.

Coalfish fishing is often at its most intense during this period. Large schools chase around reefs and drop-offs, which can lead to quick bites and fast-paced fishing. This is one of the highlights of the week.

Cod are consistently present in the area, providing steady fishing, although the focus in summer is often more on coalfish and halibut than on really large cod.

For variety, there is also the option to fish deeper for redfish, which offers a calmer and more tactical fishing experience that breaks up the more active sessions. The combination of fishing for halibut, coalfish, cod, and redfish makes this fishing trip to Norway varied and suitable for both those who want a lot of bites and those who want to target bigger fish.

In short, July is a very good period for sea fishing on Senja, where you get a good balance between activity, variety, and the chance of dream fish.

Coalfish fishing is often intense during July. Large schools of coalfish gather around reefs and can provide truly fast-paced fishing. At the same time, cod are stable in the area, providing consistent and reliable cod fishing throughout the week.

For those who want to broaden their fishing experience, there is also the option to target redfish in deeper waters. The combination of fishing for halibut, coalfish, cod, and redfish makes this fishing trip to Norway both varied and enriching.

In addition to the main species, there is also a chance of catching species such as monkfish, ling, pollock, haddock, wolfish, and tusk, making every day at sea exciting.

Mieko Fishing as your tour guide

Mieko Fishing has long been a well-known name among Swedish sea anglers who travel to Norway. Through many years of fishing in Northern Norway, they have built up a strong sense of what actually works – both in terms of technique, bait choice, and equipment for halibut, coalfish, cod, and other species.

This is also reflected in their products. Mieko Fishing has for a long time developed and selected the right gear for fishing in Norway, where the equipment needs to withstand tough fights, varying weather, and long days at sea. This makes them a reliable host for those who want to learn more, navigate the equipment jungle, and gain a better understanding of the fishing on site.

During the trip, Mieko Fishing will be there as a tour guide, support, and sounding board. You will receive help with everything from how to rig baits and set up drifts to which spots and methods are best suited for the day's conditions. This makes the trip extra valuable whether it's your first fishing trip to Norway or you already have several tours under your belt.

Boathouse by the water

During your hosted trip, you will stay together in lakeside cabins right by the water. Here, the group is divided to create comfortable and social accommodation close to the fishing.

The lakeside cabins are 70 m² and are perfect for group fishing trips. Each cabin can accommodate up to seven people, distributed among three bedrooms. There is a spacious living room where you can gather after a day of fishing, and a fully equipped kitchen for communal meals.

The accommodation is equipped with two toilets, a shower, Wi-Fi, and a TV, providing a comfortable base for the entire week.

Immediately adjacent to the lakeside cabins are practical areas with private freezers, drying cabinets, and plenty of space for clothes and fishing gear.

At Frovåg Havsfiske you can choose between self-catering or ready-made meal packages. The well-equipped kitchens in each accommodation make it easy to cook together after a day at sea.

Before a fishing trip to Frovåg Senja

Who is Mieko Fishing?

Mieko Fishing is a Swedish company with extensive experience in sea fishing in Northern Norway. For many years, they have fished for halibut, coalfish, and cod, and developed lures and equipment adapted for Norwegian sea fishing. On this Hosted Trip, Mieko Fishing will be present as a tour leader, sharing their experiences regarding techniques, lure selection, and how to fish effectively under various conditions.

What is a Hosted Trip?

A Hosted Trip is a fishing trip where an experienced tour guide accompanies the group throughout the week. On this trip, the group is led by Mieko Fishing, who assists participants with everything from planning and equipment to techniques and bait selection out at sea. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced anglers.

Do I need to have experience with sea fishing?

No. The trip is equally suitable for those making their first fishing trip to Norway as it is for those with many seasons under their belt. Throughout the week, Mieko Fishing will be there to help you develop, regardless of prior experience.

What fish species are fished for in Frovåg on Senja?

During the week, we mainly fish for halibut, pollock, cod, and redfish. Depending on the weather and conditions, there is also a chance to catch wolfish, monkfish, ling, tusk, coalfish, and haddock. The great diversity of species is one of the reasons why Frovåg is such a popular destination for sea fishing in Norway.

Can I travel alone?

Yes. Many of our guests travel alone. We arrange boats and accommodations so that everyone quickly becomes part of the group. A Hosted Trip is a popular way to meet other anglers with the same interest.

Do I need to bring my own fishing equipment?

You can bring your own equipment or rent on site. Before the trip, we at Outside Travels and Mieko Fishing will help you choose the right rods, reels, lures, and other equipment for sea fishing in Northern Norway.

What's included in the fishing trip price?

The price of the trip includes round-trip flights, transfers, seven nights' accommodation, rental boat, breakfast, packed lunch, dinner, a Swedish tour guide from Mieko Fishing, and a digital preparation day. You also get extra baggage for a styrofoam box on the return journey, bed linen, towels, and final cleaning.

How do you fish for halibut in Norway?

Halibut are primarily caught with large jigs and shads by drift fishing over sandy bottoms, shallow areas, and current-swept edges. During the week, you will learn how to plan your drifts, choose the right lures, and adapt your fishing to the weather, currents, and tides.

What's the weather like in Senja during the summer?

During the summer, the temperature usually ranges between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius, but warmer days do occur. The weather can change quickly, so we recommend dressing in layers and waterproof clothing. Frovåg's sheltered location often makes it possible to find good fishing even when the weather is more challenging.

Why should I choose a Hosted Trip with Mieko Fishing?

Mieko Fishing has many years of experience in sea fishing in Northern Norway and has built up extensive knowledge about fishing for halibut, coalfish and cod. During the week, you will fish together with experienced tour guides who will help you with technique, lure selection, equipment and how to read fishing spots.
