It’s been on the way for a while, but now it’s here. The film from the Baitbox Hosted Trip to Bosnia is out, and we’ve watched it more times than we care to admit here at the office. Last spring, Simon Ekdahl and Jens Sankala packed their fly rods, rain jackets and slightly too many fly boxes and headed down to the Balkans with six fellow travelers. We at Outside Travels took care of the rest. The camera rolled all week, and the result is called FLY FISHING IN BOSNIA. Grab a coffee, turn up the volume and join us.
The film from the Baitbox Hosted Trip in Bosnia
If you’ve followed Baitbox for any length of time, you already know what to expect. There are no perfectly polished fishing days where every cast produces a fish. This is real fishing, with takes that connect, takes that don’t, and the occasional fly that ends up in a tree instead of in front of a rising grayling. Between casts there’s laughter, fishing talk and plenty of Balkan culture. And then there are grayling, trout and rainbow trout in waters that make you pause a little longer every time a fish slips out of the net.
The weather didn’t quite want to cooperate that week, something you can read more about in Baitbox’s own fishing report. The fish didn’t care much about it, and neither did the group. That says quite a lot about both Bosnia and the kind of trip this is.
Simon and Jens sum up the arrangement as a trip where everything was taken care of and they essentially just needed to show up. So they did. We could hardly receive a better review, and it was apparently good enough that they’re heading back this spring.
What is a Baitbox Hosted Trip?
In short, it’s a fishing trip where you don’t watch Baitbox through a screen but stand beside them in the river. Simon and Jens travel with the group all the way. You fish together, eat every meal together and remain at the table when the day’s fish has somehow grown a few centimeters since lunch. This isn’t a meet and greet where you shake hands and take a selfie. After the first evening, it’s mostly just a group of fly fishers who happen to have ended up on the same trip.
We take care of all the boring stuff. Flights, transfers, accommodation, food and local guides who know the rivers inside out are included, and if the guides have a plan B when the water changes, they usually have a plan C as well. The only thing you need to think about is which fly to tie on next. If you want help with that question, two anglers who have filmed and fished together for more than fifteen years are waiting to talk fly selection with you.

About Team Baitbox
Baitbox started in 2010 when a few friends wanted to save their fishing trips somewhere, and YouTube was the easiest place. None of them probably imagined that it would become one of the biggest names in Swedish sport fishing, but that’s exactly what happened. The recipe has barely changed since then. Real fishing days, plenty of humor and friends who enjoy being out on the water together. That’s the feeling we wanted to move from the films to a riverbank in Bosnia, and judging by the film, it worked pretty well.
Fishing in Bosnia
There’s a reason fly fishers from across Europe come here. The rivers of western Bosnia are rich in limestone, have stable flows and strong populations of wild grayling and trout. The Ribnik offers technical dry-fly fishing where the grayling are happy to look at the fly three times before making up their minds. The Pliva offers large grayling and rainbow trout, the Sana is bigger water with a chance of truly large fish, and the Una has some of the most beautiful surroundings in the country. Grayling over 50 centimeters are not uncommon, which is usually enough to make even the most seasoned fly fisher’s hand tremble a little.
Before departure, we have a packing list for fly fishing in Bosnia and a fly package for Bosnia with flies that work in these waters. Curious about more trips where you fish with a well-known personality? You’ll find them all under Hosted Trips.
