Fishing in the Ebro Delta

The Ebro Delta is a truly exciting area for tuna fishing. Here, the Ebro River meets the Mediterranean Sea, creating a nutrient-rich area with large quantities of baitfish. It is primarily bluefin tuna that we are here for, but during the fishing, there is also a chance of catching little tunny and other species that hunt in the area.

During the trip, we have three full days with local guides who know the waters and the movements of the tuna. Much of the fishing is about finding active fish. When birds and baitfish reveal hunting tuna, it is important to quickly get into position and present the bait correctly.

Once a bluefin tuna bites, the real challenge begins. These are strong fish that can offer long runs and proper fights. Little tunny are smaller, but compensate with speed and aggressive bites and can provide really fun fishing when they are present.

All equipment and baits needed for fishing are available on site and are included in the trip, so you do not need to bring your own equipment if you do not wish to.

What is a hosted trip?

A Hosted Trip is a fishing trip where an experienced tour guide accompanies you throughout the entire journey. You receive support, camaraderie, and someone to share the experience with, both on the water and in the evenings after fishing.

On this Hosted Trip to the Ebro Delta, you will travel with Tajtlajn and a small group of anglers. The trip includes three full days of guided fishing for bluefin tuna and little tunny, while Tajtlajn will be your tour leader throughout the entire trip.

Who are Tajtlajn?

The angling shop Tajtlajn has been around since 1993 and is a well-known fishing store in the Gothenburg area. The shop is located in Kållered, just south of Gothenburg, and behind the counter you'll find a group of anglers with great knowledge and an even greater passion for fishing. Here you'll find everything from predator fishing and sea fishing to one of Gothenburg's largest selections in fly fishing.

Since 2020, Tajtlajn also operates Strömvalls Sportfiske at Olskroken in Gothenburg, one of Sweden's oldest angling shops. But Tajtlajn is not just about what happens in the shops. Over the years, they have organized numerous Hosted Trips to Norway, where Tajtlajn staff have traveled with customers to fish, socialize, and share the experience on site.

Now the journey goes south. Together with Outside Travels, Tajtlajn is bringing its Hosted Trip concept to Spain and the Ebro Delta. Here we exchange Norwegian fjords for the Mediterranean and focus on fishing for bluefin tuna and little tunnies, with Tajtlajn as the tour guide throughout the trip.

The Ebro Delta and the Tuna Fishery

In recent years, the bluefin tuna has once again become a familiar sight in Swedish waters, not least in Öresund where large fish have been tagged as part of the Swedish tuna project. For many Swedish sport fishermen, it has been a reminder of the incredible fish that actually swim along our coasts.

In the Ebro Delta, it looks different. Here, the Ebro River meets the Mediterranean, creating a nutrient-rich area with large quantities of baitfish. Bluefin tuna seek out this area to hunt, and here there is the opportunity to actually target them with local guides.

Just like at home, the fishing can be very visual. Birds, baitfish, and surface activity reveal where the tuna are hunting. When it happens, it's important to quickly get into position and get the bait in front of the fish. In addition to bluefin tuna, there are also little tunnies in the area, smaller tuna that offer quick bites and really fun fights.

For those of you who have followed the tuna's return to Öresund and wondered what it would be like to actually hook one, the Ebro Delta is an opportunity to experience tuna fishing for real.

Accommodation, food and drink

During the trip, we will share an apartment in the Ebro Delta, close to the harbor and the boats we will be fishing from. The accommodation will be our common base during the days in Spain, and you will share a room with another participant.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included during the stay. In the morning, we will have breakfast before the day's fishing. Lunch will be adapted to the fishing day, and in the evening, we will gather for dinner, something delicious to eat, and to chat about the day's fishing.
