The Ebro Delta is a well-known area for sport fishing. Most people associate the Ebro with catfish and carp, but the area offers significantly more opportunities. Where the Ebro River flows into the Mediterranean Sea, a large marine nature reserve is created with very nutrient-rich water. This makes the area extremely biodiverse and creates ideal conditions for predatory fish.

Here you can find several exciting species such as bluefin tuna, bonito, dorado, sea bass, leerfish, and bluefish. The combination of depth, currents, and nutrients makes the area one of Europe's strongest destinations for saltwater sport fishing.

Fishing is primarily done with poppers, stickbaits, and jigs with casting floats. The methods are simple but effective, and for those who wish, trolling and bait fishing are also available. Very large bluefin tuna, sometimes up to 250 kilograms, are regularly caught in the area.

Fishing in the Ebro Delta – Spain

Fishing Season:

April to October

Fishing Groups:

1–8 people, with a maximum of 4 people per boat

Fishing in the Ebro Delta primarily focuses on bluefin tuna, where poppers, stickbaits, jigs, and casting floats are the most effective methods. For those who prefer, trolling and live bait fishing are also available as alternatives. The area offers a chance to catch truly large fish, sometimes up to 250 kilograms.

Ebro is located in the province of Tarragona, approximately two hours from Barcelona Airport. From May to October, fishing departs from La Ametlla de Mar, which provides quick access to the most productive areas. In April, fishing takes place from L’Escala in Costa Brava, an area known for its coastal environment and good conditions for spinning for tuna.

In addition to tuna, there is an opportunity to fish for species such as mahi-mahi, bonito, dorado, sea bass, leerfish, and bluefish, making the area one of Spain's most versatile fishing waters.

Accommodation on this fishing trip

Accommodation is chosen based on the group's size, travel period, and availability. You may be placed in either a modern hotel or a private apartment near the coast. All options are of good standard and offer a comfortable environment to relax in after a day on the water. We will help you choose the accommodation that best suits your wishes when you contact us.

Food & Drink in Spain

The food during the trip is of high quality with a distinct Mediterranean focus. You will be served three meals a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner – with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and local flavors. Drinks are available during meals, and menus are adapted to the season and what is best in the area.

fish species and bait choice

The Ebro Delta offers diverse fishing opportunities with species such as bluefin tuna, bonito, dorado, sea bass, leerfish, and bluefish. For tuna, we primarily use poppers, stickbaits, jigs, and casting floats, methods that work very well in the area's current-rich waters. If needed, trolling and live bait fishing can also be employed. The wide range of species makes the area ideal for anglers who want to try multiple techniques on the same trip.

Before a fishing trip to...

What fish species are found in the Ebro Delta?

The Ebro Delta offers rich and varied fishing thanks to the nutrients that the Ebro River brings into the Mediterranean. Here you can fish for bluefin tuna, bonito, dorado, sea bass, leerfish, and bluefish. There are also more species in the area, but these are the most common and sought after for our trips. The Ebro Delta is known as perhaps Europe's most accessible place for truly action-packed saltwater fishing – and a favorite for anglers who enjoy techniques such as popper, stickbait, and jig.

When is the best time to go on a fishing trip to ....

The best time to go on a fishing trip to the Ebro Delta depends on where you're fishing from – and what kind of tuna fishing you want to experience. To catch the real giants, tuna weighing up to 250 kilograms, the period April–October is optimal.

Can I customize my fishing trip

Yes, you can absolutely customize your fishing trip. We will help you tailor dates, number of fishing days, accommodation, equipment, and any optional extras to suit what you want to get out of the trip. Whether you are traveling alone, with a friend, or in a group, we will ensure the package fits your fishing adventure and your preferences.

Passport and visa information

For travel to Spain, as a Swedish, Norwegian or Danish citizen, you only need a valid passport or national ID card. No visa is required.

Make sure your passport or ID is valid for the entire trip and that it is in good condition, as airlines may refuse boarding if the document is damaged.

Facts about the country

Spain is easy to travel in, uses the euro as currency, and has the same electricity standard as Sweden. Areas like Tarragona and Costa Brava are safe, well-organized, and perfect for sport fishing thanks to their stable climate and proximity to the Mediterranean.

Is there Wi-Fi on site?

Yes, the accommodation has Wi-Fi. The speed may vary, but it works fine for general browsing and messaging. Otherwise, you can often surf just like at home with your Swedish subscription, as Spain is part of EU roaming.

How do you fish in the Ebro Delta?

In the Ebro Delta, we primarily fish for bluefin tuna using active spinning tackle, where poppers, stickbaits, and jigs are most common. This results in incredibly visual strikes when the tuna are hunting at the surface.

In addition to spinning, bait fishing is used much more often than trolling. It's an effective method when targeting the really large tuna that can weigh up to 250 kilograms. Trolling is an option, but it's used less frequently compared to bait fishing and spinning.

How are the weather and climate?

The Ebro Delta delivers perfect fishing weather throughout the season. Spring starts strong with stable weather and excellent fishing as tuna approach the coast. During the summer, you'll experience warm days, calm mornings, and a sunny Mediterranean climate that makes every fishing trip both pleasant and action-packed. Autumn continues with warm temperatures and consistent conditions where fishing is often at its most intense.
